The Rhodes Scholarship competition for Canada (to be held at Oxford, UK) has just been launched.  https://uwaterloo.ca/graduate-studies/awards-funding/external-awards/rhodes-scholarship   Eligibility Highlights: Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada By October 1 st , 2017, the applicant must be between the ages of 19 and 25 Student must have received their undergraduate degree prior to holding the Rhodes scholarship Must have extensive accomplishments – see website above for examples of contributions from past Rhodes applicants   Deadline :  F IRM deadline of September 12 th @ 9:00 a.m. EST by which application materials (outlined on website) and 6 letters of assessment must be emailed to me

The next Waterloo-local ACM-style programming contest will be held on Sunday, June 19 in MC 3022 and MC 2061.  All members of the UW community are invited to try their programming skill in Scheme, C, C++, Java, or Pascal. For full details and online registration, please see: http://acm.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca/~acm00/ The contest will run from 1 pm sharp until 4 pm, and will be followed by pizza.  There will be a practice contest in the morning to allow contestants, especially those competing for the first time, to get their account setup and become familiar with the contest environment. Contestants participating in the practice contest should arrive by 10:30 am in MC 3022.  For out-of-town participants, it is possible to participate remotely using a web-based system, but local participants are encouraged to attend in person if possible.
