CSearch Conference

Queen’s University is excited to host the second annual Computing Student Research Conference this October 4th-5th. You don't need to be an expert in computing to attend CSearch!  We are a conference for all undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in STEM to come together and discuss their ideas regarding innovation and research in progressing technology fields. Come learn about work being done in computing through keynotes, workshops, and student presentations! New research opportunity for undergraduate students - URF

The GREC team has recently received approval to move forward with a new co-op position for students who will be in year 3A  - 4B who may be interested in graduate studies. The Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF) program will provide students with the opportunity to work full time for one co-op term with a supervisor and team of graduates. Our ultimate goal with this program is to build more awareness on the school's research programs and expose students to what graduate studies are like.  Fellowship Details: Students will receive a minimum of $15,000/term for their co-op placement The School will contribute $7,500/student NSERC USRA + faculty to top up the difference Students can apply through WaterlooWorks or through our website .

HeForShe Event: Student Volunteer Opportunity

The HeForShe  program is an initiative that challenges all of us at UWaterloo to provide leadership in advancing gender equity. Would you like to contribute to this cause by volunteering at an exciting event on Monday? The Canadian  Get Free Tour  will be launched by the United Nations Women at the University of Waterloo on Monday, September 16, 2019. There will be a campus Rally and President’s Lecture to engage the UWaterloo campus community in the conversation of gender equity and male allyship.   We are in search of volunteers to help engage with fellow students and others at the Campus Rally. Next local ICPC-style programming contest - September 29th

The International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious university-level programming competition in the world. Each year, more than 50,000 students from over 100 countries compete in Regional competitions to earn a spot at the World Finals. Each term, we organize a Waterloo-local ICPC-style programming contest for fun, for practice, and to select teams to represent Waterloo in the international competition. The next Waterloo-local ICPC-style programming contest will be held on Sunday, September 29th in MC 3003. All members of the UW community are invited to try their programming skill in Racket, C, C++, Java, Pascal, Python, or Scala. The results of this local contest will be used to select the UW teams for the international ICPC competition. YHack 2019 at Yale University

YHack is Yale’s annual hackathon, a 36-hour extravaganza of technology and innovation where students create apps, websites, and hardware that tackle challenges in a vast array of fields. There will be 1,000 hackers, food, caffeine, rap battles, prizes, performances, and more! This year, YHack will be held October 25th - 27th.  Applications for YHack 2019 are now open and everyone is invited to apply! Two Part time Research Assistant Positions Available at Premise

We are a group of faculty members from the economics department who are studying a large dataset made available by Premise ( www.premise.com ), a San Francisco based company that specializes in analytics based on mobile data. For example, Premise has been part of World Bank projects where it has managed to collect mobile based data on basic goods, and that can be used to compute estimates of local inflation. We are using Premise’s data to construct predictive models of local instability. In this respect, we are interested in hiring two Research Assistants to assist us in cleaning and analyzing the data. The Research Assistants should have the following qualifications: Should either be a graduate student or fourth year undergraduate student Enrolled in either an engineering, math, computer science, or statistics program Be able to work 10 hours a week on the project Demonstrated experience in working with large datasets Proven ability to construct and run predict
