Lecture: From fixing the women to liberating the men.

Dr. Jennifer Berdahl, Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia Wed. Waterloo March 29-31 and is giving a university-wide presentation on Wednesday, March 30th on gender in organizations. Dr. Berdahl is the first Montalbano Professorship in Leadership Studies: Women and Diversity at UBC’s Sauder School of Business, and is an internationally recognized scholar in the field of gender in organizations. Women in Math Winter Lecture Series featuring Anna-Karin Tornberg

Thursday, March 20, 2014 - 3:30 pm Accelerated Boundary Integral Simulations of Particulate and Two-Phase Flows Anna-Karin Tornberg, Professor of Numerical Analysis at the KTH ROYAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY , Stockholm, Sweden. In micro-fluidic applications where the scales are small and viscous effects dominant, the Stokes equations are often applicable. The suspension dynamics of fluids with immersed rigid particles and fibers are very complex also in this Stokesian regime, and surface tension effects are strongly pronounced at interfaces of immiscible fluids.  Simulation methods can be developed based on boundary integral equations, which leads to discretizations of the boundaries of the domain only, and hence fewer unknowns compared to a discretization of the PDE. Paid Summer Internships -- Outreach Program for Women

Paid summer internships - Outreach Program for Women Apply: March 27 - May 1 Internship dates : June 17 - September 23 Stipend : $5,000 (USD) Skilled women will get to work on interesting projects, build their professional networks, and learn from experienced mentors from all over the world. Participants will work remotely from home alongside the guidance of an assigned mentor to assist with community projects. The program is open to all women who are available for full-time employment. Assignments are not limited to coding projects -- internships can include graphic design, documentation, and marketing projects. Applicants will need to get in touch with individual open source projects ahead of time to decide which project they are interested in working on and make a small contribution to the project.

Volunteer at WICS Campus Day!

We are looking for female CS students to volunteer at our Women in Computer Science (WICS) Campus Day, which is happening on Saturday, March 23 from 9am – 5pm. What is WICS Campus Day?  Women in Computer Science (WICS) Campus Day is an invitation only event that invites our top female high school applicants to visit Waterloo. They will participate in a full day of activities to learn more about CS and meet other females in the program. What will I do as a volunteer?  As a volunteer, you will speak with our future students about your Waterloo experience and answer questions they may have about the program.
