Upper Year Course Information Session

Students are invited to attend an information session relating to choosing their upper year courses, hosted by Director of Undergraduate Studies, Professor Charlie Clarke.  Students will hear:  Information on all fourth-year and optional third-year courses. University of Rochester open house for prospective graduate students

The Department of Biostatistics and Computational Biology at the University of Rochester is hosting an Open House for prospective graduate students on Saturday, September 26, 2015.  The global demand for professionals and  academics with advanced training in the statistical sciences is extremely strong and continues to grow.  This event will provide students potentially interested in graduate study in biostatistics and statistics with an opportunity to learn about our programs, to meet with current students, faculty, and program alumni, and to gain some perspective on the many career opportunities this exciting field has to offer. Next Waterloo-local ACM-style programming contest

The next Waterloo-local ACM-style programming contest will be held on Sunday, September 27 in MC 3022 and MC 2061. All members of the UW community are invited to try their programming skill in Scheme, C, C++, Java, or Pascal. The results of this local contest will be used to select the UW teams for the international ACM competition. We will send three teams of three to the East Central North America Regional in Windsor on October 30-31. If we do well there, one team will advance to the World Finals in Phuket, Thailand on May 15-20, 2016. Technica all-ladies hackathon!

Technica is an all-ladies hackathon at the University of Maryland. For 24 hours, you will be immersed in everything tech so that you can explore, learn, and create awesome projects. Mentors and sponsors will be hacking alongside students to build stronger connections between the amazing ladies of our tech world. The event will hold workshops detailing certain programming languages, hardware, and design, therefore attendees do not need any previous experience to attend!  The hackathon will take place at Ritchie Coliseum, located 9 miles away from D.C., a 3 minute drive from the College Park Metro stop, and includes free parking! Argumentation Mining and Natural Language Processing course for Fall 2015

In Fall 2015, the Cheriton School of Computer Science will be offering an Argumentation Mining and Natural Language Processing CS 499R reading course. This course would be of interest to fourth-year students who are considering graduate studies at Waterloo next year or who might be interested in NLP, particularly in combining knowledge-based NLP with Machine Learning. No experience in Argumentation Mining or Natural Language Processing is necessary. Faculty and graduate students will be participating in the course as a reading seminar and will be available to mentor students in preparing and presenting the readings.   Requirements:       Students should have taken CS486, or be taking it concurrently, so they have some knowledge of various forms of  Artificial Intelligence.        An A-minus or better overall average is preferred. Startup Conference

Business Today is a student-run non-profit founded by Steve Forbes at Princeton University in 1968 which seeks to bridge the gap between influential business leaders and top undergraduate students.   Specifically, the Start @ a Startup Conference is centered on connecting talented college students with 30 elite emerging companies through an immersive weekend experience in the heart of New York City that will take place this October 10th and 11th. Students will have the opportunity to meet in small groups with leading executives, as well as learn from remarkable keynote speakers. In the past, we have had great speakers from Dropbox, Sequoia, and many others. This year, we are excited to welcome founders from Yik Yak, Stripe, Asana, and PlanGrid as keynote speakers!
