Velocity Startup looking for graduating CS student

We are Techneeq Training and we aim to build a company out of the velocity foundry in which our vision is to create a personalized, accelerated sports training program in which you can track and measure performance metrics. We aim to build software and hardware tools to create this experience, starting with soccer and expanding to all sports. We are looking for software engineers to develop a UI, data collection process and sports analytics. Opportunities @ Maluuba

"Started from the bottom, now we here." - Drake We were in your shoes. The assignments, the exams, the hundreds of pizzas and kimchi noodles - and of course sleepless nights in the DC and MC. We've been there and we know you have too - that's why we want to work with you. We started Maluuba in our last term at UW and it's been an incredible life changing journey since. We raised millions in VC investment from the valley, got a small office, built some amazing technology, signed million dollar deals (seriously) with some big names, now have a huge office with a team of over 35+, and are one of the few UW start-ups  building next-gen technology that even Google and Apple haven't built yet. You've worked hard at UW now it's time to reap the rewards. Join Maluuba to build the next generation of voice search and NLP technologies. Your work will impact millions of our customers, we've got a great fun group, provide amazing lunches

Post-Doc in Image Processing/Computer Vision, U of Saskatchewan

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Saskatchewan seeks a postdoctoral fellow in the area of image processing and computer vision to take a central role in an international research project funded by the Digging into Data ( http://www.diggingintodata.org ) program.   The postdoctoral fellow will be part of the Digging into Archaeological Data: Image Search and Markup (DADAISM) project which is comprised of an international group research teams in three countries.   The DADAISM project seeks to improve the searchability of databases of archaeological images in a manner that facilitates the use cases of archaeological researchers.     The project goals of the DADAISM project are: 1. To develop and deploy a mixed-initiative interactive system that combines minimal human annotation with automated processing techniques to transform the tasks of searching for relevant images and relating them to other electronic resources such as grey literature documents. 2.

Software Engineering: Innovative project prototypes!

From the Software Engineering department: We invite you to 5th Annual Capstone Design Project Symposium for the Software Engineering Program at University of Waterloo.  More than 90 Software Engineering students will present 22 design project prototypes that solve problems in the general areas of software including brain simulation, mobile apps, cloud computing, entertainment, music, security, and artificial intelligence. Students will exhibit innovative projects, such as using parallelization to improve the speed of Nengo brain simulation ( http://nengo.ca/ ), adding integrity protection to an encrypted file system in the Linux kernel, and a website for students to plan courses with friends (has already been used by over 4,000 UW students). Date and time:  Friday, March 21, 2014 from 9:00am-6:00pm Location: Davis Centre, UW campus Campus map:  http://uwaterloo.ca/map/ Visitors are encouraged to browse the interactive displays and meet with students anytime d

Insight Data Engineering Fellowship Program

Are you a graduating BS, MS or PhD student or professional in engineering, math or computer science looking to transition to a career in big data infrastructure engineering? Do you want a career that leverages your engineering and CS fundamentals in the fast-growing, in-demand, technically challenging field of big data?   http://insightdataengineering.com Silicon Valley technology companies like Facebook, Square, Microsoft, Palantir and many others are hiring data engineers to help them store and efficiently query the terabytes of data they collect everyday. While the amount of data produced is growing exponentially, there is a severe shortage of top engineering talent to build the infrastructure and data pipelines necessary to to extract insights from this data. The Insight Data Engineering Fellows Program is a professional training fellowship designed to help engineers from various backgrounds, as well as mathematicians, and computer scientists, transition to careers in da

From Solitary to Solidarity

As you know, concerns around mental health are prominent on campus and within the Faculty. The UW Drama program will present  From Solitary to Solidarity , a show about the life and death of Ashley Smith, in the second part of March.  You may have heard of Ashley Smith, a young woman  who died at Grand Valley Institution for Women in 2007. The inquest on the circumstances surrounding her incarceration and eventual death recently declared her death a homicide.   In connection with the performance, which will run on March 19, 20, and 22, the department is hosting a forum on mental health issues.  Details are available at  https://uwaterloo.ca/drama-speech-communication/events/small-acts-repair-toward-mental-helath-information-and .  This forum is open to anyone who would like to attend. Students have taken a lead role in organizing this forum, and we are hoping it will be a productive place to discuss challenges and responses related to mental health issues.

UWFA Trading Challenge (Part 2)

The UWFA Trading Challenge allows students to practice trading in a dynamic, competitive, and risk-free environment. The Rotman Interactive Trader (RIT) software provided in the M3 Finance Lab will be used to simulate real-time trading amongst the participants. The three most profitable traders will receive $100 in prizes courtesy of Bloomberg. The event will be held in M3 2103 at 6:00pm on Thursday March 13th . Two representatives from Bloomberg Trading Systems will be in attendance, and will be providing FREE BLOOMBERG SWAG. The challenge will consist of three cases, each run 4 times (12 total simulations). The trader with the highest average P&L rank in each case will be the winner for that case. The first half-hour of the event will consist of practice rounds to get students familiar with order-types, trading strategies, and the RIT software. Note that the M3 Finance Lab has a MAXIMUM CAPACITY OF 30. Please arrive early to ensure yourself a spot. For more info

Women in Math Winter Lecture Series featuring Anna-Karin Tornberg

Thursday, March 20, 2014 - 3:30 pm Accelerated Boundary Integral Simulations of Particulate and Two-Phase Flows Anna-Karin Tornberg, Professor of Numerical Analysis at the KTH ROYAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY , Stockholm, Sweden. In micro-fluidic applications where the scales are small and viscous effects dominant, the Stokes equations are often applicable. The suspension dynamics of fluids with immersed rigid particles and fibers are very complex also in this Stokesian regime, and surface tension effects are strongly pronounced at interfaces of immiscible fluids.  Simulation methods can be developed based on boundary integral equations, which leads to discretizations of the boundaries of the domain only, and hence fewer unknowns compared to a discretization of the PDE. Two main challenges associated with boundary integral discretizations are to construct accurate quadrature methods for singular and nearly singular integrands, as well
