As you know, concerns around mental health are prominent on campus and within the Faculty.
The UW Drama program will present From Solitary to Solidarity, a show
about the life and death of Ashley Smith, in the second part of March. You may have heard of Ashley Smith, a young woman who died at Grand Valley Institution for Women in 2007. The inquest on the circumstances surrounding
her incarceration and eventual death recently declared her death a homicide.
In
connection with the performance, which will run on March 19, 20, and
22, the department is hosting a forum on mental health issues. Details
are available at https://uwaterloo.ca/drama-speech-communication/events/small-acts-repair-toward-mental-helath-information-and. This
forum is open to anyone who would like to attend. Students have taken a
lead role in organizing this forum, and we are hoping it will be a
productive place to discuss challenges and responses related to mental
health issues.
