Upcoming STV courses of interest for CS students

STV is offering a couple of interesting courses that would be relevant to CS students. Please see bloew and a couple of highlighted courses: STV 201 Pluriversal Alternatives: Ideas to Postpone the End of the World. It’s our first crack at a course that explores Indigenous and anti-colonial ways of understanding technology and society. It’s a brand new special topics course. STV 302 Information Technology and Society. It’s similar to CS 492, but open to all UW students. As expected, it covers AI, ChatGPT, social media, misinformation, etc.

TWO PROFS SEEKING A FABULOUS PART-TIME URA FOR WINTER 2024 (WITH POSSIBILITY TO CONTINUE ON LONGER)

Professors Maura R. Grossman and Dan Brown are in search of a spectacular part-time URA to assist them in conducting a teaching and learning-related research study that will take place in the Winter term. The lucky student will (i) distribute to and collect information from potential study participants, including consent forms, pre- and post-questionnaires, etc., (ii) attend two classes per week to make written observations, and possibly, (iii) assist in data analysis, literature searches, and drafting of publications, with the potential for co-authorship as appropriate. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational/tracking skills and will be a keen observer of human behaviour and good note-taker who can maintain personal information in confidence. Knowledge of Qualtrics is helpful but not necessary. Interest in issues involving discrimination and surveillance in computing (the topic of the two classes) and enthusiasm are a big plus. The objective of the   Bayer Digital Campus Challenge 2023  is to leverage digital technologies to revolutionize the healthcare and farming industries and improve people's lives. ADaPT Program - Career Opportunity

ADaPT ( Advanced Digital and Professional Training program run through the Diversity Institute at Toronto Metropolitan University, formerly Ryerson)  is a federally funded, cost-free digital and professional skills development program that provides career coaching support and paid work placements for students and graduates all across Canada.
