Point72 Data Scholars Program

Hosted by Point72 in partnership with Correlation One,   Point72 Data Scholars Program   is open to top undergraduate freshmen and sophomores in the New York metropolitan area.  The P72 Data Scholars Program takes place virtually on   April 26th from 1pm - 4pm EST . 50 accepted students will have the opportunity to participate in an exclusive, one-day training program that will equip them with a deeper understanding of the hedge fund industry and emerging applications of data science in investing.  The program features presentations from leaders at Point72 as well as hands-on training from experts in alternative data and quantitative investment analysis. Invited students will also have the opportunity to connect directly with Point72 data and investment professionals.  Interested students can submit an application on our   landing page here ! FINE 204 - Soft Coding

Fine Arts is offering a special topics course, FINE 204: Topics in Studio Practice (Soft Coding), which is a fine arts studio course that will explore scores, prompts, instructions, and constraints in conceptualism, with a focus on rule-based and generative art. The prerequisite for the course is FINE 100 but the Fine Arts advisor is willing to override the FINE 100 prereq for interested students.  Please contact the Fine Arts advisor  for more information and to add yourself to the waitlist .

DAAD Young Ambassador

The DAAD has the RISE program  which aims to promote student exchange to Germany in the fields of natural science, engineering, and life sciences. That includes: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science , Physics, Earth Sciences, Engineering, or a closely related field. Undergraduate students, who apply for these internships, are carefully matched with doctoral students and researchers from German universities of applied sciences. These internships can be as short as 10 weeks and as long as 3 months. These internships also come with a plethora of funding from the DAAD, which is mainly funding by the German government, and not to mention a particularly amazing scholarship from Mitacs for qualifying students as well. The Math Innovation team at UWaterloo is hosting a pop-up Fireside Chat event on March 19 th , 2024. Our guest speaker for this event will be Scott Stevenson. Academia or Industry? Women in Mathematics workshop

Academia or Industry?   is a 1-day workshop for women+ in math who are pursuing a graduate degree (or have recently graduated) to receive guidance and mentorship with regards to career opportunities post-graduation. Some of the workshop sessions include a keynote presentation, and career panels on both academia and industry. Math Innovation - Speaker Series March 20th, 2024

The Math Innovation team at UWaterloo is hosting the Entrepreneurship and Impact Series on   March 20 th , 2024   with guest speaker Jeff Shiner. Jeff is the CEO of 1Password, a leader in human-centric security. Jeff also serves on the Board of Directors of GenomOncology, a company that provides the healthcare community with data-driven insights to improve cancer care.   Jeff’s talk will   begin at 4:30pm in DC 1302   with an “Ask Me Anything” portion, where you can ask Jeff questions. Spring 2024 USRA

Co-op students may be interested in conducting full-time research and be considered for the NSERC Undergraduate Student Researc h Award  (USRA). Th e award has a value of $6,000 for the term with additional supervisor contributions for a total of $9640 (minimum) for the term. If you are interested in exploring the research side of academic life or if your goal is graduate studies in a field related to Computer Science, the experience of an NSERC USRA could be very helpful .     This year we encourage you to consider working on an Interdisciplinary Research Project. An Interdisciplinary Project would involve interaction between two or more disciplines, draw on knowledge from different disciplines, or train students in disciplines outside their background.        If interested in a Spring 2024 USRA, please complete the steps outlined on th e CS USRA webpage by Monday March 4, 2024 . The Waterloo Alt Protein Project

The Waterloo Alt. Protein Project is a student design team focused on engineering the future of food through research, entrepreneurship, and innovation. We are one of Canada’s first chapters of the Good Food Institute (GFI), amongst almost 60 chapters worldwide. If you are interested in climate change, food security, biosecurity or animal welfare, join the team ! CS 494 capstone symposium March 27, 4pm-7pm

VR Study: Priming and measuring presence

Are you interested in VR technologies? Please join our VR study! Who we are: We are HCI Games Group at the Games Institute, University of Waterloo. We are looking for participants to take part in a 30-minutes VR experiment, so we can understand how individuals experience virtual environments. Also, we want to understand how to make these environments more accessible and immersive. What you will need to do: you would need to engage/observe a virtual environment and then share your experiences via a questionnaire and a short interview. To participate: you must be over 18 years old; plus, VR headsets are not recommended for individuals with vision, hearing, balance issues, musculoskeletal disorders, implants, neurological history, pregnancy, fatigue, stress, or anxiety. Please be aware that department consent has been removed for CS371, 452, 492, and 479 for Winter 2024 as per the information on the  course enrollment page . Although department consent was removed for CS492, instructor consent has been applied to the course and you would need to contact the instructor. If the class is full, then you will need to wait for students to drop the course before you could add the course. Please note that the deadline to add courses is Friday, January 26, 2019, 11:59 PM (EST).
