Application open for Canadian Student Participation in the NASA International Internship (NASA I2) Project

Exceptional undergraduate & graduate students from Canada to spend 10 weeks at NASA in the summer of 2020. The Canadian Space Agency (CSA),  Fulbright Canada and Mitacs have partnered under the Agency’s  Canadian Student Participation in the NASA International Internship (NASA I2) Project.   This program   will provide opportunities for high performing Canadian students from a variety of STEM disciplines to be part of a 10 week research internship one of NASA’s research facilities. Grad Portraits for CS Class of 2020!

This is a nother reminder about Grad Portraits! If you are on campus this term, you must have your grad portraits taken by Dec 13 in order to appear on the class composite with your classmates.  Please visit www.lifetouch.ca/waterloo to book an appointment. Waterloo Cybersecurity CTF Team - Basic skills training (Session 2)

The Waterloo Cybersecurity CTF Team will be offering the second (and last) training session of  before the internal CTF (Capture The Flag) event end of the month. The session will cover buffer overflows on 32-bit x86 platforms. This includes the concept of buffer overflows and how they can be exploited. The sources will be uploaded so you can follow along. Bring a laptop with Linux (or a VM) and gdb installed, so you can actively try out the buffer overflow attack yourself. Participants needed for a study investigating technology-facilitated sexual violence

You are invited to participate in a study investigating technology-facilitated sexual violence (e.g. cyberstalking, dissemination of images, online sexual harassment, etc.). Specifically, this project will examine campus community members’ (i.e. students, faculty, and staff) understandings of the phenomenon, and perceptions of the role(s) institutions can/should take in responding to online behaviours, such as technology-facilitated sexual violence. Shaina McHardy is a PhD student working under the supervisions of Dr. Andrea Quinlan in the Sociology and Legal Studies Department at the University of Waterloo, and will be conducting this study. Volunteers needed for study!

We are looking for volunteers to take part in a study of a crowdsourced image classification platform. If you decide to volunteer, you will be asked to create an account on the platform, fill out a 5-minute online demographic survey, then you will be allowed to interact freely with the platform for the next 7 days. During this period, you will be asked to complete as many image classification microtasks as you wish. At the end of the study period, we will ask you to fill out a final 10-minute online survey, in which we will ask your feedback about your experience with this platform. Waterloo Cybersecurity CTF Team - Basic skills training (Session 1 of 2)

The Waterloo Cybersecurity CTF Team will be holding a two part event going over basic skills needed for cybersecurity competitions. On Wednesday Nov 6, 5:30-7:00pm in EIT-3042 we will go over the fundamentals of embedded programs with an an introduction to assembly language and how software works at the machine level. We will also present two online examples where attendees can follow along as well as showing a demo how the skills can be applied to solve a previous CTF reverse engineering challenge.
