Math Innovation - Speaker Series March 20th, 2024

The Math Innovation team at UWaterloo is hosting the Entrepreneurship and Impact Series on   March 20 th , 2024   with guest speaker Jeff Shiner. Jeff is the CEO of 1Password, a leader in human-centric security. Jeff also serves on the Board of Directors of GenomOncology, a company that provides the healthcare community with data-driven insights to improve cancer care.   Jeff’s talk will   begin at 4:30pm in DC 1302   with an “Ask Me Anything” portion, where you can ask Jeff questions. The talk will be followed immediately by a social reception with refreshments.   You can register   here .

Spring 2024 USRA

Co-op students may be interested in conducting full-time research and be considered for the NSERC Undergraduate Student Researc h Award  (USRA). Th e award has a value of $6,000 for the term with additional supervisor contributions for a total of $9640 (minimum) for the term. If you are interested in exploring the research side of academic life or if your goal is graduate studies in a field related to Computer Science, the experience of an NSERC USRA could be very helpful .     This year we encourage you to consider working on an Interdisciplinary Research Project. An Interdisciplinary Project would involve interaction between two or more disciplines, draw on knowledge from different disciplines, or train students in disciplines outside their background.        If interested in a Spring 2024 USRA, please complete the steps outlined on th e CS USRA webpage by Monday March 4, 2024 . Due to a limited number of awards available, we are prioritizing applications for:   research project

The Waterloo Alt Protein Project

The Waterloo Alt. Protein Project is a student design team focused on engineering the future of food through research, entrepreneurship, and innovation. We are one of Canada’s first chapters of the Good Food Institute (GFI), amongst almost 60 chapters worldwide. If you are interested in climate change, food security, biosecurity or animal welfare, join the team ! We are looking for students to fill the following roles: ·          Student Engagement Lead ·            Course Development Lead   ·          Events Coordinator ·          Marketing Coordinator Applications are due by February 16 . CS 494 capstone symposium March 27, 4pm-7pm

The capstone symposium for CS494 + GENE404 + ENBUS402B will be March 27, 4pm-7pm in the E7 second floor event space. Everyone is welcome.  There are some great projects from CS494 this year: All Joined: inferring thoughts from EEG brain scans (in collaboration with a prof at UofT) Safi: monitoring the milk supply from small hold farmers in East Africa Redacted2: algorithmic redaction of refugee court files (in collaboration with Osgoode Hall Law School Refugee Law Lab) Bedrock: helping housing developers access green renovation+building grants (project inspired by being in the same room with the Environment/Business ENBUS402B students)
