Undergraduate Research in Educational Data Mining

Undergraduate students can  participate in a paid data science research internship next Summer at George Mason University. Project Description The primary goal of this interdisciplinary REU Site program is to expose ten high quality undergraduate students to advanced topics in analytics, data mining, and visualization techniques as applied to data from the education domain. Students will participate in projects with the central theme of improving instructional technology design, enhancing academic curricula and modeling learning experiences. Application open for Canadian Student Participation in the NASA International Internship (NASA I2) Project

Exceptional undergraduate & graduate students from Canada to spend 10 weeks at NASA in the summer of 2020. Waterloo Cybersecurity CTF Team - Basic skills training (Session 2)

The Waterloo Cybersecurity CTF Team will be offering the second (and last) training session of  before the internal CTF (Capture The Flag) event end of the month. The session will cover buffer overflows on 32-bit x86 platforms. This includes the concept of buffer overflows and how they can be exploited. The sources will be uploaded so you can follow along. Bring a laptop with Linux (or a VM) and gdb installed, so you can actively try out the buffer overflow attack yourself. Participants needed for a study investigating technology-facilitated sexual violence

You are invited to participate in a study investigating technology-facilitated sexual violence (e.g. cyberstalking, dissemination of images, online sexual harassment, etc.). Specifically, this project will examine campus community members’ (i.e. students, faculty, and staff) understandings of the phenomenon, and perceptions of the role(s) institutions can/should take in responding to online behaviours, such as technology-facilitated sexual violence. Shaina McHardy is a PhD student working under the supervisions of Dr. Andrea Quinlan in the Sociology and Legal Studies Department at the University of Waterloo, and will be conducting this study. Volunteers needed for study!

We are looking for volunteers to take part in a study of a crowdsourced image classification platform. If you decide to volunteer, you will be asked to create an account on the platform, fill out a 5-minute online demographic survey, then you will be allowed to interact freely with the platform for the next 7 days. During this period, you will be asked to complete as many image classification microtasks as you wish. At the end of the study period, we will ask you to fill out a final 10-minute online survey, in which we will ask your feedback about your experience with this platform. Waterloo Cybersecurity CTF Team - Basic skills training (Session 1 of 2)

The Waterloo Cybersecurity CTF Team will be holding a two part event going over basic skills needed for cybersecurity competitions. On Wednesday Nov 6, 5:30-7:00pm in EIT-3042 we will go over the fundamentals of embedded programs with an an introduction to assembly language and how software works at the machine level. We will also present two online examples where attendees can follow along as well as showing a demo how the skills can be applied to solve a previous CTF reverse engineering challenge. New UWaterloo Cybersecurity CTF Team - Demo today!

UWaterloo is starting a new cybersecurity team on traditional (i.e. cloud systems) and embedded systems (cars, trucks, medical devices, airplanes, UAVs, satellites, etc.). We're holding an info session and a first demo of some attack tools on Wednesday Oct 23 from 5:30-7pm in E5-4105. The first session will include a presentation going over some common network security exploits and the steps from identifying a vulnerable target all the way to attacking the target. A live demonstration of an attack on an insecure virtual machine will then follow. Members of UWaterloo’s cybersecurity team will be around to answer any questions about competing in cybersecurity competitions and the new team.

CSearch Conference

Queen’s University is excited to host the second annual Computing Student Research Conference this October 4th-5th. New research opportunity for undergraduate students - URF

The GREC team has recently received approval to move forward with a new co-op position for students who will be in year 3A  - 4B who may be interested in graduate studies. The Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF) program will provide students with the opportunity to work full time for one co-op term with a supervisor and team of graduates. HeForShe Event: Student Volunteer Opportunity

The HeForShe  program is an initiative that challenges all of us at UWaterloo to provide leadership in advancing gender equity.
