Coop position available Winter 2019 with Prof Semih Salihoglu

Coop position available Winter 2019 with Prof   Semih Salihoglu .  Title: Finding maximally connected callers in phone networks Description: We are looking for a co-op student  for the Winter 2019 term to work on a project to find all maximal cliques continuously in a dynamic phone call network of a telecommunications company. In other words, the problem we will be solving is to find all "maximal" sets of phones that are calling each other as new calls are being made in a network of phones. The work will be based on applying the techniques developed by a recent MMath graduate of Prof. Semih Salihoglu (thesis here: https://uwspace.uwaterloo.ca/handle/10012/14051 ) to a real-world problem of a customer of Huawei. The responsibilities will involve understanding the techniques developed in the thesis and implementing a specialized version of those techniques to undirected graphs. The final product will be a proof-of-concept tool that hopefully will be significant...

Course drop-add for Winter 2019 is now open!

Courses have been scheduled based on pre-registration. From now until the start of the term, you can drop-add courses in Quest. Here are a few important notes moving forward: If you get a “department reserve” error when attempting to add a course, it’s likely that the course has a waiting list . You will not be able to add that course until the waiting list clears, around the start of the term.Waiting lists are only used to manage pre-registration, and we cannot add you to the waiting list. If you pre-registered for a course and didn’t get in, then you are already on the waiting list! If you didn’t pre-register, you will need to wait for the list to clear and department consent to be removed. You can find more information regarding the waitlist here . The removal of department consent will be posted on the CS Blog .  We will not override you into any classes unless you meet the specific guidelines listed below (see special cases ). We do not make exceptions to this rule! Eng...

Two positions available in data visualization and AI/robotics

Engineer position: Multi-dimensional data visualization XPLOR is a unique visualization software developed by the Computing and Data Science team at CNRS laboratory UNIC (Unit of Neuroscience, Information and Complexity). It offers smooth navigation inside large multi-dimensional data and fast extraction of meaningful information. It allows the exploration and fast interpretation of large volumes of neurobiology imaging data, yet it is a powerful generic platform with potential applications to all domains treating with large multi-dimensional data. Further developments of the software can include new visualization modes or linkages between different displays, as well as the inclusion of machine learning algorithms to automatically extract regularities in the data (e.g. clustering, dimension reduction, etc.). The company is looking for an engineer with skills in data visualization, graphic UI/UX programming, and/or machine learning to contribute to and promote an open-source visualiz...
