Coop position available Winter 2019 with Prof Semih
Salihoglu.
Title: Finding maximally connected
callers in phone networks
Description: We are looking for a co-op
student for the Winter 2019 term to work on a project to find all maximal
cliques continuously in a dynamic phone call network of a telecommunications
company. In other words, the problem we will be solving is to find all
"maximal" sets of phones that are calling each other as new calls are
being made in a network of phones. The work will be based on applying the
techniques developed by a recent MMath graduate of Prof. Semih Salihoglu
(thesis here: https://uwspace.uwaterloo.ca/handle/10012/14051)
to a real-world problem of a customer of Huawei. The responsibilities will
involve understanding the techniques developed in the thesis and implementing a
specialized version of those techniques to undirected graphs. The final product
will be a proof-of-concept tool that hopefully will be significantly faster
than what Huawei currently has. You will be working closely with Prof. Semih
Salihoglu and attend meetings with our Huawei collaborators.
