Part time employment at the Geospatial Centre

JOB SUMMARY/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

This position entails refining and migrating an existing full stack web map search application. The components our site is built with are React, Node.JS, Nginx, MongoDb, Postgres in a Linux environment. The project is stored on the UW GIT. Our primary goal is to migrate from AWS to our local servers, then fix/improve the site and re-deploy it to the public. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual that is open to expanding and honing their development skills on a web site that presents large historical datasets in an easy to use online map/search format.

On average, casual staff can expect to work six to ten hours per week, scheduled between 8:30-4:30 Monday-Friday.

We are seeking individuals that are comfortable with analyzing and learning the code and components of our site and with guidance, then to migrate and improve it.

Training required:

  • Online training modules (Employee Safety Orientation, Workplace Violence Awareness, Understanding the AODA and the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service, Communicating with Customers with Disabilities, Serving Customers with Disabilities,  Employee WHMIS 2015
  • On-going training on project work throughout the term

Proficiency with the following software programs:

  • Linux, React, Node.JS, Nginx, MongoDb and Postgres

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Level of Responsibility/Impact:

  • To be comfortable with full stack development. To be able to review, understand, develop, and complete the migration from a Cloud service to in house servers. The project currently resides on both AWS and in house servers. You will be liaising with different teams consisting of developers and sys admin’s in the course of your term with us.

Physical Working Environment:

  • Open office environment, requiring sitting for long periods of time. Working pace varies with frequent interruptions and requires the ability to multi-task while also meeting deadlines.

Grad students needed to mark reports for PD2

WatPD is currently seeking graduate students to mark reports for PD2: Critical Reflection and Report Writing from late-March to early-April. Students in this course must write a 16-20 page report which is worth 50% of their final grade. With over 1500 reports expected to be submitted, we need your help!
