Paid Summer Research  Invitation for 2016 (NSF REU site)  Program: The Department of Computer Science and Engineering Department at Oakland University (Michigan) will conduct a 10-week summer research program for undergraduate students in 2016. The program is designed to infuse qualified undergraduates with enthusiasm toward both graduate level education and a career in research. Program features: • 10 weeks full time research program from May 23rd through July 29th. My name is Dr. Owen Gallupe and I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Legal Studies at the University of Waterloo. I am leading a study examining the effect of the sight of rewards on task performance and I am looking for undergraduate students to participate in a one time, 35 minute experiment. This study has implications for incentive programs to promote good behaviour in prison settings. All participants will be provided with a $20 gift card to local businesses for their participation in this research. Participation will include a simple mental task followed by a short questionnaire. The next Waterloo-local ACM-style programming contest will be held on Saturday, January 30 in MC 3022 and MC 2061.  All members of the UW community are invited to try their programming skill in Scheme, C, C++, Java, or Pascal. For full details and online registration, please see: http://acm.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca/~acm00/ The contest will run from 1 pm sharp until 4 pm, and will be followed by pizza. There will be a practice contest in the morning to allow contestants, especially those competing for the first time, to get their account setup and become familiar with the contest environment. Contestants participating in the practice contest should arrive by  10:30 am in MC 3022.  For out-of-town participants, it is possible to participate remotely using a web-based system, but local participants are encouraged to attend in person if possible.

York CVR Vision Science Summer School The Centre for Vision Research (CVR) at York University offers a one-week, all-expenses-paid undergraduate summer school on vision science.  This year's program will be held June 6-10, 2016. The program includes talks by CVR faculty on current research topics in vision science, as well as hands-on experience in CVR laboratories. The curriculum reflects the wide range of research areas at CVR, which includes research on human visual perception, computer vision, visual neuroscience, 3D film, immersive environments, and disorders of vision. The program will accept 24 undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in scientific research.  It is intended mainly for students who are planning to apply to graduate school in the fall of 2016, and who are interested in investigating vision science as a possible area of research.  Citizens of all countries are eligible.
