Adding CS courses for Spring 2019

Courses have been scheduled based on pre-enrollment/course selection and you can now drop/add courses in Quest. Please read the following as they might apply to you, especially if you find that you are not able to enroll into certain courses.

I get a "department reserve" error, what do I do? OR I selected a course and wasn't enrolled into it, what do I do?
If you get a “department reserve” error when attempting to add a course, it’s likely that the course has a waiting list.

If you did not pre-register/course select for the course, then you will not be able to add that course until the waiting list clears (usually around the start of the term). Waiting lists are only used to manage pre-registration, and we cannot add you to the waiting list. You will need to wait for the list to clear and department consent to be removed. You can find more information regarding the wait list here. The removal of department consent on a course will be posted on the CS Blog as well.

If you pre-registered for a course and didn’t get in, then you are already on the waiting list! There is no need for you to take any action at this time.  We will fill any spots that open up in the course from the waitlist. Our selection will be random, so we are not able to tell you your place in line. If a position opens up for you, then we will contact you. However, you must respond to us when we contact you; otherwise, we will assume that you are no longer interested in the course. Please let us know if you no longer want this course or you no longer meet the prerequisites by contacting us at (csadvisor@cs.uwaterloo.ca) as it would help the other students on the wait list. If you have decided to take another non-waitlisted CS course instead of the wait listed course, then please contact us (csadvisor@cs.uwaterloo.ca) for assistance.  Note that the course you choose must be one that is not wait listed, as we will not add you to another course's wait list.

Important: if you have requested a non-waitlisted CS course and was not successfully enrolled into it, then contact CS advisors for assistance.

I want an override for a course, what do I do?
We will not override you into any classes unless you meet the specific guidelines listed below (see Course selection - special cases). We do not make exceptions to this rule!

Engineers who wish to take CS courses must wait until the second week of the term (May 13). See the full FAQ 78 for guidelines.
