Borealis AI Undergrad mentorship program: apply by Jan. 29, 2021

Borealis AI   is inviting applications   from teams of undergrad students, who are interested in working with our mentors   on projects, using Artificial Intelligence to help solve problems from the students' own community. Students will also learn about career opportunities in the thriving AI industry. Teams interested must submit   one   group application to   mi.research@borealisai.com   by   11:59 PM EST   on   January 29, 2021 . Applications should include: A proposal of less than 500 words about the problem your team would like to solve. A completed copy of the attached application form for each team member. Position available: Research Assistant – Human Computer and Human Robot Interaction

The “Intergenerational Games with Social Robots” project is a joint initiative by the Social and Intelligent Robotics Research Laboratory (SIRRL) and Intelligent Technologies for Wellness and Independent Living (ITWIL) research labs at the University of Waterloo. The project aims to create interactive games mediated by social robots that can be used to foster interactions between grandparents and grandchildren. We are currently designing tools that can be used by game designers and HRI/HCI researchers to create better experiments and interactive activities with respect to both games and robots. We are looking for students who are keenly interested in conducting research in creating and evaluating these tools using remote research. The student will be working with both human-computer interaction (HCI) and human-robotic interaction (HRI) researchers as well as with experts in the fields of engineering and assistive technologies. They can do that by participating in the e-Capstone initiative which will guide them through the process of evaluating important problems, critically assessing the feasibility of an idea, testing assumptions with potential users, building a proof-of-concept and ultimately pitching their solution to a general audience. There is no other guided experience in UW that offers these benefits – if you’re a student and want to tap into your innovation potential to become more employable, we’d be excited to welcome you. Want a mentor in Tech? Whether you’re taking CS because you want to dip a toe in the tech waters or because you are fully committed to a tech journey, a new Microsoft mentoring program has been developed with you in mind. Microsoft employees will serve as your mentors, coaching your cohort of peers through group and individual remote sessions. You’ll work on developing individual and collaborative strategies to help navigate challenges that can arise across personal, academic and workspaces.  Ready to build your tech resilience? Interested in a resume-builder?  Programs launch late March 2021.
