Overview:

NAVBLUE’s New Graduate Program is an 18-month long program that helps recently graduated students develop new skills, gain exposure to business functions, and understand new technologies and areas of software development. You’ll get to experience developmental growth, learn from the very best, and be given the opportunity to work different rotations in our Software Development field. You’ll even get a chance to spend time in Toulouse, France to see our Office Headquarters, visit Airbus and the assembly line of an aircraft!

This unique opportunity has been designed with newly graduated students in mind so that you can learn the skills of the trade and get exposed to core business functions. Honing your craft and building on business and technical skills will give you a better idea of what YOU can bring to the table in your professional life and NAVBLUE is here to support you: You’ll be mentored by a Senior Developer throughout the program and receive guidance from each Chapter Lead. You will be able to gain the real-world experience you need for your career by engaging in impactful projects at NAVBLUE.

Our software development teams are formed around a matrixed organization consisting of Tribes and Chapters. Team members belong to a Chapter, in which skills, competencies, and standards are owned, solidified, and grown. They are also members of a Squad (scrum team) where they utilize those skills and competencies to support the Tribe in the production and delivery of quality software. We work in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) that consists of quarterly Project Increment meetings.

In NAVBLUE’s Graduate Program you will experience 5 rotations aligning with our program increment schedule in 4 separate Chapters that focus on Frontend, Services, Data & Optimization and Testability. You will also receive support and funding to receive your AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification during your first year with NAVBLUE. At the end of your 5 rotations, you will then spend 5 weeks in Toulouse, France getting exposure to other areas of the business (such as finance, support, product, and more!) and touring the Final Assembly Line of Airbus. Throughout the Program your abilities will be evaluated and recognized through salary increases. The end goal is for each Graduate Student to end the Graduate Program by being promoted to an Intermediate Software Developer within NAVBLUE.

Job Summary:A Graduate Software Developer is responsible for the development, deployment, maintenance and support of various applications, systems, and tools. The developer assists with coding, testing and debugging of new software or enhancements to existing software to meet product specifications. Assigned projects are specified in detail and of limited complexity. The developer works under direct supervision and receives training on all aspects of the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow detailed technical specification (or equivalent) to complete technical tasks
  • Maintain/Create documentation for applications, tools, or systems as required
  • Deploy various systems, tools and applications (including installation and testing)
  • Communicate project/work status orally, written, or other as required
  • Covers on-call rotations when required
  • Submission of final project for successful completion of the Graduate Scheme
Education:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or equivalent
Experience:
  • No professional working experience required
  • Co-op experience is a plus
  • Experience with operation and support of UNIX/Linux Operating Systems
Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities & Competencies:
  • Must work effectively with others in a team environment
  • Knowledge of any of OpenGL, Networking, UNIX Shell Scripting, Optimization, SQL, XML, Perl/CGI, RDMS and GUI Development an asset
  • Good C, C++ and/or Perl Programming Skills
Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):
  • Ability to communicate proficiently in English
Travel Required:
  • Ability to travel to Toulouse for 5 weeks

Grad students needed to mark reports for PD2

WatPD is currently seeking graduate students to mark reports for PD2: Critical Reflection and Report Writing from late-March to early-April. Students in this course must write a 16-20 page report which is worth 50% of their final grade. With over 1500 reports expected to be submitted, we need your help!
