New documentary course

We have a new course offered this spring –  HIST 203 -  In the Director’s Chair.  Students will have the opportunity to create a documentary using hands on teaching and learning techniques.  The course is offered on Monday evenings and is being taught by a real documentary producer - Craig Thompson.   Description Director’s Chair is a project-based course that provides students with the skills and the foundation of knowledge required to conceive, develop, research, write, produce and exploit a personal or historically-themed documentary. *This is a hands-on course with in-field, in-lab and in-class lecture components. *Each student is required to create their own short documentary, under 10 minutes, where teamwork, collaboration and brainstorming are part of the process.

Women in STEM event

The University of Waterloo's Women's Centre is hosting a Women in STEM event on March 28th at the Grad House from 7:30pm-9:30pm.  The event will be discussing social and structural stigmas that women in STEM face, and we will have graduate students from different faculties to share their experiences, as well as career aspirations that students can strive towards. Disrupt Climate Data Challenge!!

The  2017 Ontario Climate Symposium   will be taking place at York University on May 11th and 12th .  The theme for this year's symposium is "Just Transformations: The Next 150". At this event, we hope to encourage the development of positive narratives and visions of a just future - ones that cross boundaries between natural science, social science, law, humanities and the arts. Alongside the symposium, OCC is also hosting its first-ever Disrupt Climate Data Challenge . We are looking for teams of students to code, solve and challenge the status quo for a real-world climate data problem: how to display or simplify uncertainty within climate data portals. Students will have the opportunities to work with mentors to craft their solution, and present their ideas to distinguished judges in the industry.
