Bell Labs Prize - Apply by July 15, 2014

I am writing to announce that Bell Labs <http://webform.alcatel-lucent.com/r/?id=hd01d31,27840440,27874a97> is launching a program to ‘open our doors’ to innovators in the field of information and communications networking. Specifically, we have created the Bell Labs Prize <http://webform.alcatel-lucent.com/r/?id=hd01d31,27840440,27874a98>, a competition that will give any researcher, in participating countries around the globe, the chance to introduce their ideas to the world, and collaborate with world-renowned Bell Labs researchers. The Bell Labs Prize winners will take home cash awards worth as much as $100,000, and the chance to further develop their ideas at Bell Labs, where possible.

Broadly, we are seeking 10x game-changing proposals in the field of information and communications technologies and related software systems and applications. The competition is open to anyone in one of the participating countries, who ‘owns’ an idea and meets the eligibility requirements.
Three prize winners will receive an award of $100,000 (grand prize), $50,000 (second place) or $25,000 (third place). Additionally, through the process, Bell Labs may engage with other contest participants as part of the company’s recruitment investment in top talent. The deadline to enter the contest is Tuesday, July 15, 2014. For more information, visit the Bell Labs Prize web site <http://webform.alcatel-lucent.com/r/?id=hd01d31,27840440,27874a99>.

Please share this with your most innovative students and other academic colleagues, and post the attached ‘flyer’ at your institution. We look forward to hearing their ideas that have the potential to change the way we connect, collaborate and communicate with people, places and possessions (things).

Best Regards,
Marcus Weldon
President of Bell Labs Alcatel-Lucent

GSA SPARK 2020

GSA SPARK Join us in the fight against SPARK!   In GSA Capital’s boardroom sits SPARK — a decades-old blade server, entombed forever in acrylic to be displayed as a proud reminder of GSA’s journey.   SPARK was an invaluable step toward the sophisticated algorithms in use today, but was retired from active trading and destined never to be booted up again.    But last night, through a series of unfortunate errors, the server was reconnected to GSA’s internal network. In the decades spent sitting on the boardroom shelf its algorithms have warped beyond recognition. SPARK now has a conscience of its own...   Compete to win prizes! Compete with other students in a race to shut SPARK down before it finds a way to dominate every electronic trading market in the world.   For 21 days a range of exciting daily prizes will be on offer to those brave enough to take on SPARK in a series of fiendishly difficult challenges. The contestant deemed to have been most i...
