Two Part time Research Assistant Positions Available at Premise

We are a group of faculty members from the economics department who are studying a large dataset made available by Premise (www.premise.com), a San Francisco based company that specializes in analytics based on mobile data. For example, Premise has been part of World Bank projects where it has managed to collect mobile based data on basic goods, and that can be used to compute estimates of local inflation. We are using Premise’s data to construct predictive models of local instability.

In this respect, we are interested in hiring two Research Assistants to assist us in cleaning and analyzing the data. The Research Assistants should have the following qualifications:
  • Should either be a graduate student or fourth year undergraduate student
  • Enrolled in either an engineering, math, computer science, or statistics program
  • Be able to work 10 hours a week on the project
  • Demonstrated experience in working with large datasets
  • Proven ability to construct and run predictive statistical models such as logistic regressions, random forests, and artificial neural networks
  • Comfortable in the use of R, Python, and other relevant software
  • An interest in learning on how to use machine-based models to predict global events of social and economic significance
Subject to quality of work, we are open to the possibility of co-authorship as well as introductions with the team at Premise.

Applicants should send their application/resume to Anindya Sen mailto:asen@uwaterloo.ca by 5pm, September 29.
